I have a server running SBS 2008 on a RAID 1 Volume (Using to 512GB SATA Drives).
Server is nearing disk capacity and I want to upgrade system so it is running on a 1 TB RAID 1 Volume.
As the server had two of its four drive slots free I purchased two Enterprise class (WD Black 5 Year Warranty) drives 1TB drive. After installing them however I can see no option to initialize the second two drives to create a second RAID 1 Volume.
Does the controller support this?
My plan would then have been to Clone the RAID 1 Virtual Disk on the 512GB array to the new 1TB array whilst at the same time scaling up the partition sizes (using EaseUS ToDo Backup). This seems doable from a software perspective but can only be done if I can get both array active of the server at the same time.
Secondly I have read horror stories here :-
About it taking literally days to initialize RAID array. This might be acceptable, though not desirable for a new server install, but it is NOT acceptable for a server upgrade scenario even if does out of hours at a weekend.
Any advise suggestion greatly appreciated.
