Still can't use AD Credentials for iDrac

Hi All,

I've been trying for quite some time to configure iDrac to let us use AD Credentials. We have a Windows Server 2008R2/Windows Server 2012 DC's running in a simple environment (no Certificate Authority setup).

I assumed for quite some time that iDrac requires a certificate authority to be configured on the domain to allow LDAPS connections. After reading some online guides it actually looks like this isn't a requirement (even if it is best practice).

I tried to set up a quick and dirty test to authenticate to our domain controller at a site, this was the result: http://pastebin.com/rC3k8JLu

It looks as though (even though it's not configured) iDrac will try to use both LDAPS (686) and LDAP GC SSL (tcp/3269) to perform authentication, as well as user/group lookups.

Curiously, the Test Results pane shows that iDrac was successfull in connecting to both Directory Server (SSL) AND Global Catalog (SSL). Now this may simply be a test to see if the port is open, but all shows the test as passed.

What I'm trying to figure out is, DOES iDrac require the use of SSL for it's user lookups and authentication?

If so, I assume I will need to set up a root CA (which I haven't done before) for our domain.

Version Information of config files on openManage network Manager

$

Hi,

I have schedule daily backups of Switch config files on OpenManage Network Manager. The scheduling works fine. But every time the backup runs it changes the version number but I think it should not change until and unless there is a change in config file. So now I see version number 9 or 10 of same config file but there have been no changes in it, so it should always be version 1. Not sure why it changed. Any idea if this is the way it works or Do I need special settings?

Also I would like to know how to go back to previous version. For example I want to use 2 days old back config file. How would I see all backups till today`?

Thanks in advance for having a  look into it.

OMSA v7.4 64 bit Active Directory Plugin

Hi-- I loaded 64 bit OMSA v7.4 plus the 7.401 patch.  There is a 32 bit Active Directory plugin, but no 64bit plugin.  The 32 bit plugin won't load (says I need the 64 bit plugin).

Has Dell released the v7.4 64bit AD plug-in?  I was able to login to OMSA v7.4 using

domain-name\user-name.  Is the AD plugin not necessary for 64 bit OMSA?  What does it do?

OMSA v7.4 WHERE DID PREFERENCES GO?

Just loaded OMSA v7.4.  The preferences tab (which is where you adjust settings for the OMSA server, including updating the x.509 certificate) is not there anymore.

The web page has a link on the bottom to Manage Web Server.  But this does not accept a login (the same login that gets me into the main OMSA pages fails here).    Is this where the preferences went?

If we are using OMSA on a virtual machine to access the  VMWare host information through managing a remote host, which credentials should be accepted by OMSA for "Manage Web Server"?

BIOS AutoOn Doesn't Work if Machine is Hard Powered Off

The "AutoOn" function (configured using either CCTK or manually in the BIOS) doesn't work if the machine is hard powered down (by holding down the power button). When you hold the power button down to power off the computer, the machine will not power up at the time specified by the AutoOn configuration.

However, if you shut down gracefully via Windows, the machine will indeed power up at that time. Is there a configuration option we are missing? I tried to change the "AC Power" setting to "On" rather than "Last", but that didn't change the behavior of AutoOn.

Thanks,
Stan

iDRAC6 not responding + LCD display not working

Hello

Today I wanted to boot one of my lab R710 servers when I realized that the fans didn't slow down and the front LCD display kept dark.

First I though I ran into a RAM problem since the system first stuck at "Configuring memory please wait ..."

Then I removed some DIMMs etc. until I realized that after while the boot continued up to this point:

I got a second R710 and so I've decided to swap the iDRAC adapters and the allegedly "broken" one worked in the other server without any issues. I've put the "ok" one in the affected server but still the same problem.

I also swapped the board of the front LCD panel and checked he cabling, not still the same error.

So  I got the bad feeling it would be the mainboard.

Unfortunately I'm unable to upgrade the firmware (running an old 6.0.7 BIOS) since the boot gets interrupted too early.

At the moment I'm a bit clueless on how to proceed and I'm really looking forward to get some tips from you!

Best regards

Patrick

iDRAC 1.57.57 problem with SetAttribute(s) method

Hello, we just upgraded from 1.06.06 to 1.57.57.  On version 1.06.06, we have no problems with SetAttribute.

The problem is 1.57.57 always returns with error BIOS006, Configuration job already created, cannot set attribute on specified target until existing job is completed or is cancelled.

Even after clearing the job queue and rebooting the drac, we are still getting this error.  It doesn't matter if it is the first job we try to put in the queue, it still replies this way.

Any advice is appreciated, thank you.

Hi

My company bought three PE R710 servers in 2010 and we have installed Windows 2008R2 on all of them. Now we want to do a clean install of Windows 2012 R2 on one of them.

I've searched all over an updated version, supporting Windows 2012 installation, of the Dell Server installation and server management DVD but I didn't find it at Dell Support website. Can someone please point me the way where I can get it?

Thank you very much.
Best regards,

Open-Manage 7.4 (32Bits) stop working

Hi,

I use open-Manage 7.4 for more of 200 servers PowerEdge R210. But some are 32bits and other 64bits, The OS are Windows Server 2008 R2 Fondation with all updates. Sometime, the service "dcstor32", only for 32bits version, stop to work and impossible to restart it. Repair don't work too and is really random. Open manage can work durint 2 month or only 2 weeks and fail after.

I create a commandline for repair it:

taskkill /F /FI "SERVICES eq dcstor32"
msiexec.exe /i C:\Temp\OM-SrvAdmin-Dell-Web-WIN-7.4.0-866_A00\SysMgmt.msi REMOVE=ALL /qb
msiexec.exe /i C:\Temp\OM-SrvAdmin-Dell-Web-WIN-7.4.0-866_A00\SysMgmt.msi /qb

after open-manage work again but don't know for all many time before fail again

Unified Server Configurator & VLAN

Hi all

I'm trying to use Unified Server Configurator from Lifecycle Controller to do a Platform update on a R610 with ESX4i installed.
The problem is: All NIC's are Trunked/EtherChannel'ed, and the default vlan does not have internet access.
Is there any way we can set a VLAN for the Network Configuration that we are able to download the Update Packages trough USC directly from DELL?

Thanks & Cheers

iDRAC7 - how to enable all email alerts via racadm ?

$

With the iDRAC7 there are 14 "pages" of alerts.

I would like to enable the email checkbox for each of these alerts using racadm.  Normally I figure out how to do this by saving the entire config to file (racadm getconfig -f file.txt) but it doesn't appear that these alert options are saved to file.

Any ideas?

My goal is to be able to standardize all the DRAC7 configs across our enterprise.

CCTK Won't reset the bios

I'm using CCTK to apply some BIOS changes to several different systems.  I want to set the BIOS back to defaults before applying the new changes.  --sysdefaults=reset works on the newer systems, but doesn't work on the older computers like the Optiplex 755 and 960.  I get the error "Either the system hardware or the BIOS version does not support the option.  To resolve the BIOS version issue, upgrade the BIOS to the latest version."  I also tried using --cmosdefaults=enable, but that gives me the error "The option 'cmosdefaults' is not available or cannot be configured through this tool."  I verified both the 755 and 960 are running the latest BIOS.  Do these models not support a BIOS reset command?

Perc6 configuration utility and Openmanage on old server.

$

I have an old server at a remote site running Windows 2003 64-bit.  I had someone install an additional drive but it's not showing up in Windows. I'm assuming I need to run the perc6 configuration to add it as a new disk/array. There is currently no OpenManage or other Dell software installed

I don't really want to talk someone on site though using the Bios utility to configure the new disk. Is there a Windows based configuration utility I can download? I didn't see one so I tried to download Openmanage 2.0, got an error installing because of the old version of Windows, tried downloading 1.1 but the link was bad.

I initially need to configure the perc6, but I'd also like to run an update utility for drivers, bios, etc.  I don't think this server has ever been updated.

What software is compatible that I can download?
